The Art Officials present All Gold Everything, Friday May 7th, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuesday April 27, 2010

There is only one Antonio Darden. There is only one Matt Sigmon.

Together, they are The Art Officials.

On May 7th, 2010, fans of The Art Officials will be given the chance to become part of art history, as the duet releases new artwork for exhibition at the launch party entitled, All Gold Everything, to be held at Studioplex's Suite 143. All Gold Everything, a show which has been made possible due to the generous lack of support by Tappan Heating and Cooling Products, New York Goes to Hollywood, and many, many others. Speaking with both artists, Matt Sigmon and Antonio Darden, it becomes apparent why these talented young men have longevity in a business where a month can seem like a long time: "We are keeping it one hundrick, we are loyal to our fans, they understand us and stand behind the quality and production of our products, we keep it real with everyone. We're fixing to do this real big and for those that don't know, this is a mix compact disc not a mixtape", states the charismatic Matt, with Antonio shoulder side affirming the statement with his trademark head nod holding up the All Gold Everything show card which they are both proud of."With All Gold Everything, we want to connect the world by sharing the joy of celebrating community and the passion for living," added Antonio. "I believe we will do that on May 7th. Our hope is that by witnessing and/or being a part of All Gold Everything, one will see for oneself that any dream, vision, idea, passion, one has can be realized." The Art Officials have received many critical acclaims such as the prestigious International Award of Excellence as well as many national and local merits.

"All Gold Everything is an once-in-a-lifetime event honoring The Art Officials' life work and work ethic."

"A true breath of talent, the Art Officials are a threat to art with more art to come."

TUESDAY MARCH 31, 2009
National Conference on Cast Iron Art (Panel Discussion - Birmingham, AL)

Fifty Years of Influences in Contemporary Cast Iron Sculpture and New Trends in Cast Iron Aesthetics

I will be participating in a panel discussion on Friday April 3rd at 2:00 PM.

Chair: Hanna Jubran
Panelists: Kate Sanerib, Kurt Dyrhaug, Matt Sigmon, Wayne Potratz, Melissa Van Sandt

"This panel will discuss casting and trends in the field of sculpture which began in 1960 at the Cranbrook Academy by Julius Schmidt and continues to grow and develop. Fifty years of history, art making and smelting iron, which generated new ideas and concepts and the development of new trends and styles at universities and colleges around the world. At the fifth international Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Sculpture we discussed and attempted to bridge "Iron Art and Technology; Past Present and Future" But how? And what kind of mechanism or way to compete with new technology art and form with old processes? We use iron as a mean of expression and imagination. Using the materials and its properties of temperature, fluidity and inherent nature of color as a new aesthetic. In the past iron regarded as a new technology; manipulating iron throughout history for our needs and desires."

Consumer Goods?
an exhibition of works by Matt Sigmon

A requirement of the Master of Fine Arts degree of Georgia State University

"How may I help you?"
"I'd like to return this cinderblock. It's not quite what I'm looking for."
"It's a cinderblock, isn't it?"
"Well, it is and it isn't...if you understand what I mean."
"I'm afraid I don't."
-Transcribed 12/27/2008 3:15 PM

When Jean Baudrillard asserted that "the banality of art had merged with the banality of the real world," he was highlighting the potential that today every object, without distinction, could be called art. Marcel Duchamp, with the advent of the readymade, helped to achieve this end. Because the aesthetics of the commonplace object can bear the same weight as the aesthetics of the high art object simply based on its contextual location, the art object‘s aesthetic form signifies nothing. As a result, the last bastion of art's purpose lies in the thoughts the object can elicit in the viewer.

Consumer Goods? is an exhibition exploring the dichotomy of consumer commodity and fine art object. All the objects in the exhibition are handcrafted copies of original, industrially manufactured commodities.

How does an art object attain its value? Does an object's worth stem from the uniqueness of artistic labor used to create it? Does its value simply come from the conceptualization that is possible when viewing an item as an art object within a particular location or context? Or does an object always retain the original idea of itself regardless of context? When does a cinderblock cease to exist as a mere building material?

"In Paris, in the early days, there were 17 persons who understood the 'readymade'--the very rare readymades by Marcel Duchamp. Nowadays there are 17 million who understand them, and that one day when all objects that exist are considered readymades, there will be no readymades at all. Then Originality will become the artistic Work, produced convulsively by the artist by hand."
